 Can you get to the 'success level' of life?

Yes, you certainly can, and when you do you will find that you will succeed in areas where you have previously failed. If you have been trying to lose fat and build your muscles so that you feel more confident, healthier, stronger and more attractive, you may have found that you haven't had much success. I suggest that you will need to change your mindset, or the way you think, before you can make any other changes because everything comes from our minds and our subconscious.
If you don't change your mindset nothing will change and if nothing changes you will have the same amount of success that you have had before.
So if you want to be successful in your life, and this includes anything you are working on including fat loss and muscle-building, then you will need to change some specific things with regard to how you think.
As you have gained weight you have probably lost a good measure of self-esteem. This is very common and is why some people just give up all hope of getting back their beautiful bodies, but with the right mindset there is no need to give up. What you have to realize is that your ideal body is still there, it is just hiding beneath the extra layer you have put on top of it. There is always hope if you know where to start.
You may have noticed that people treat you differently and look at you differently when you gain weight and lose muscle tone. They sometimes stare at you with pity or contempt, and in the supermarket they will be looking to see what you put in your shopping trolley. The other thing that may happen is that people just don't seem to see you - you have become invisible, which is not good for your self-esteem either.
Michael Addis, professor of psychology at Clark University and author of "Invisible Men" says "Men base self-esteem on body image and weight". Addis says that young men are becoming more conscious of their bodies than they used to be, and says this change is due to the shifting gender roles. "As women gain more financial power in society, men are expected to bring more to the table," Addis said. "In addition to being financially successful, they need to be well-groomed, in good shape, emotionally skilled in relationships and the emphasis on looking good is just part of the bigger package -- the stakes have been raised."
What is the ideal body shape that men are wanting in our world of rising obesity rates?
Contrary to popular belief, especially among men, the shape is not the bulked-up body-builder type of shape. If you look at magazine covers and movie stars these days, the male figures are tall, lean, agile and fit looking. That is the perfect male body shape.
Sometimes people just let themselves go, submit to the fast food and beer culture and get fat. By the time they realize that they have lost the perfect body they once had, it can be quite hard to get back to shape - but not impossible.
This is what I was talking about before when I mentioned having the right mindset. Belief in yourself is so important before you start on a program to get your body shape back, and so is determination. These are the foundation building blocks that you need when preparing for exercise, fat loss and muscle-building before you can even hope for success.
When going into an exercise program it is a really good idea to have a partner to do it with. Exercising by yourself can become monotonous and demoralizing, and you may be tempted to just give up, but if you have a partner it is different. You will give each other encouragement when feeling less motivated and even if you would let yourself down and quit, you will rarely let a partner down.
Visit your medical doctor before you start on any physical activity program if you are overweight or have been sedentary for a long time. It's good to have a check anyway, just to let the doctor know what you are planning to do - the doctor should be quite encouraging I would think.
A couple of other things to think about -
  • Surround yourself with supportive people if you can.
  • Keep a record of your activities.
  • Reward yourself at special milestones.
There is nothing sweeter than success, so go for it.
